We Believe

Community Baptist Church stands firmly on the teachings of the inspired, infallible, inerrant Word of God without bias or compromise.

  • Concerning the Scriptures
    • We believe in the plenary verbal inspiration of the Scriptures (the Bible) consisting of 66 books in two Testaments, both Old and New.
    • We believe that the canon of Scripture has been determined by God, recognized by man, and approved by Christ without any additions or losses.
    • We believe the Scriptures to be the revelation of the will of God to mankind and that as such they are inerrant, infallible and the sole and absolute authority for the believer in all matters of faith and practice.
    • We believe that the Bible is to be interpreted normally with reliance upon It's Divine Author for illumination and application.
  • Concerning God (Theology Proper)
    • We believe in one God Who exists in three Persons (Father, Son and Holy Spirit), yet one Essence.
    • We believe that God is by nature a spirit, being incorporeal and invisible, yet He has revealed Himself to mankind naturally through creation, history, and conscience, and by special revelation through Scripture.
    • We believe God is omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, eternal, immutable, infinite, transcendent and immanent. His moral attributes include holiness, righteousness, justice, love, mercy, grace, goodness and truth.
    • We believe God is the Creator and that, as the Creator, He is sovereign over all His creation allowing man the choice of cooperation with His plans.
  • Concerning Jesus Christ
    • We believe that Jesus Christ is the second person of the Godhead, coequal with God the Father and God the Spirit; yet, He is distinct as the only begotten Son.
    • We believe that He eternally existed before His incarnation, humbling Himself taking upon Himself human flesh being born of a virgin having been conceived by the Holy Spirit.
    • We believe that being fully human and fully God, His death upon the cross was the perfect sacrifice for mankind's sin.
    • We believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ which assures believers of their future with God and all the power needed for life and service.
    • We believe that Jesus Christ is presently exalted at the right hand of the Father making intercession for the believer and will physically return to rule and reign over His creation.
  • Concerning the Holy Spirit
    • We believe the Holy Spirit is God, the third person of the Trinity, coequal with God the Father and Jesus Christ the Son, yet He is distinct.
    • We believe that He was active in creation, inspired the Scriptures and illuminates the Scriptures to the believer.
    • We believe that He is active in salvation convicting men of sin, regenerating the true believer, baptizing him into the body of Christ, indwelling him and sanctifying him from the world for service in the body of Christ.
    • We believe that He dispenses spiritual gifts to the believer for the edification of one another in the body of Christ.
    • We beileve that the gift of "tongues" was given for a specific time and purpose, and is no longer need today and therefore has ceased.
  • Concerning Man
    • We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God and in a state of unconfirmed holiness.
    • We believe that man is a unity of the material and the immaterial and has been given a free will by God.
    • We believe that, in the Garden of Eden, man chose to exercise that free will and sin against God, consequently, falling from his first estate. Subsequently, sin and death has passed to all mankind.
    • We believe that all mankind is conceived having a sin nature with sin permeating every aspect of his being.
    • We believe that the chief purpose of man is to glorify God by accepting God's gift of salvation and then serving Him in anticipation of future glorification.
  • Concerning Sin
  • Concerning Salvation
    • We believe that as a result of the Fall, man is guilty before God and is justly condemned for his sin deserving an eternity in hell, but God through His Son Jesus Christ has provided the means of salvation for mankind for his sin and the eternal consequences of that sin.
    • We believe that salvation is by the grace of God through faith alone. It is through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ that man may be justified freely by the grace of God through faith.
    • We believe through God's plan of salvation, man is justified before God, redeemed from the bondage of sin, given new life through regeneration, adopted into the family of God, indwelt by the Holy Spirit Who sanctifies the believer, kept eternally secure by God Himself and will one day be glorified with an incorruptible body.
  • Concerning the Church
    • We believe that the church is God's tool for His work in the world today.
    • We believe that while the church shares a similar function as Israel in sharing God's truth with the world, the church does not replace Israel.
    • We believe that the local church consists of believers in Jesus Christ who have been Scripturally baptized who have united together to carry out the purpose of the church.
    • We believe the two offices of the church are the pastor and deacon and that the two ordinances of the church are Baptism and the Lord's Supper.
  • Concerning Angels and Demons
    • We believe that angels are powerful spiritual beings that were created during the creation week in a state of perfection.
    • We believe that their primary purpose is the worship of God.
    • We believe that while all angels were created in perfection, some angels fell from this state. These fallen angels are called demons and Satan is their chief.
  • Concerning Future Events
    • We believe that the next revealed prophetic event is the premillennial, pretribulational and imminent visible return of Jesus Christ for His Church in the Rapture.
    • We believe that, on earth, the seven years of Tribulation will begin with the revealing of the man of sin and will conclude with the Second Coming of Jesus Christ when He physically returns to the earth to fulfill His promises to Israel and establish His kingdom.
    • We believe in a literal heaven and a literal hell. One's eternal destiny depends upon their acceptance or rejection of Jesus Christ in God's plan of salvation.
